Body Fat Calculator
Estimate body fat percentage using US Navy Method.
Why Measure Body Fat?
Body fat percentage is a better indicator of fitness than weight alone. It differentiates between fat mass and lean body mass (muscle, bone, water). Two people can have the same BMI but completely different body compositions.
The US Navy Method
This calculator uses the U.S. Navy circumference method, which is widely used for its balance of simplicity and accuracy. It requires measurements of your neck, waist, height, and hips (for women).
Interpreting Your Results
- Essential Fat: Minimum fat required for basic physical and physiological health.
- Athletes: Very lean, typical of endurance athletes or bodybuilders.
- Fitness: Healthy, active range with visible muscle definition.
- Average: Acceptable range for the general population.
- Obese: Associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Visceral vs. Subcutaneous Fat
Subcutaneous fat lies just under the skin. Visceral fat surrounds your internal organs and is more dangerous to your health. A larger waist circumference often indicates higher visceral fat.
