How to Estimate Paint
A standard gallon of paint covers about 350 to 400 square feet with a single coat. For rough surfaces (like textured drywall or stucco), you may get less coverage (approx 250-300 sq ft).
Steps to Measure
- Measure Wall Area: Add the length of all walls and multiply by the height.
- Subtract Openings: Deduct standard door (21 sq ft) and window (15 sq ft) areas.
- Calculate Gallons: Divide the net area by 350. Round up to the nearest gallon.
Tips
- Two Coats: Professional results usually require two coats, especially when changing colors drastically.
- Buy Extra: It's better to have a little leftover for touch-ups than to run out. Paints from different buckets might vary slightly in shade, so mix them together ("boxing") for uniformity.
